【摘要】:Anumberoffactorssuchastheconditionoftheentryandbacksurfacesoftheinspectedpart,theinclinationoftheultrasonicbeamwithrespecttotheentrysurface,andvariationsintheperformancecharacteristicsofthetestsystemmaycausesignificantdifferencesinamplitudesofdiscontinuityindicationsandbackreflections.Thesefactorscanseriouslyimpairthereliabilityandthequantitativevalueoftheultrasonictestoutlinedinthispractice.Accurateevaluationsofdiscontinuitysizearealsosignificantlyaffectedbyvariationsinsearchunitcharacteristicsandbyirregularitiesindiscontinuitysurfaceswhichcaninfluencereflectivity.Forthesereasons,thediscontinuitysizesthatmaybeimpliedbytheultrasoniccomparisonsoutlinedinthispracticemustberegardedasx201C;apparentx201D;orx201C;estimatedx201D;inrecognitionofthelimitedquantitativevalueofthemeasurement.Becausenumerousinteractingvariablesinatestsystemcanadverselyinfluencetheresultsofanultrasonicinspection,theactualquantitativeeffectsofdetecteddiscontinuitiesuponthemechanicalpropertiesoftheinspectedproductaredifficulttoestablish.Althoughthispracticeprovidesareliablecontrolofproductqualityduringmanufacture,itisnotapplicableasanexclusiveindicatoroftheultimatequalityandperformanceofcomponentsfabricatedfromtheinspectedproductscoveredbythispractice.1.1Thispracticecoverstherequirementsforpulse-echoultrasonicinspectionandincludescriteriausedtodefineapplicablequalitylevelsofaluminum-alloywroughtproductsforaerospaceapplicationswhenperformanceoftheultrasonictestbytheproducerisspecified,orwhenultrasonicinspectionisperformedbythepurchaseruponreceipt.1.2Thispracticeisnotapplicableifplasticdeformationisintroducedintothematerialafterdelivery.1.3Theultrasonictestdescribedinthispracticeisemployedtodetectinternaldiscontinuitiesorientedinadirectionparallelto,ornearlyparallelto,thesurfaceoftheproduct.Thetestisperformedeitherbytheimmersionmethodorthecontactmethodusingpulsedlongitudinalwaveswhicharetransmittedandreceivedbyasearchunitcontainingeitherasinglecrystaloracombinationofelectricallyinterconnectedmultiplecrystals.Ultrasonictestsemployingeitherthethrough-transmissionortheangle-beamtechniquesarenotincluded.Note18212;Ultrasonictestsemployingangle-beamtechniquesrequirespecialreferenceblocks,searchunits,andscanningproceduresandaresubjecttonegotiationbetweenthepurchaserandthesellerwhensuchtestsarerequiredbythecontractorpurchaseorder.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitswhichareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
